How to Play Baccarat – The Basics You Need to Know Before Getting Started at PAV88
One of the main reasons baccarat is so popular in Malaysia is how easy it is to play. Unlike poker, which demands a high level of skill, or blackjack, where you need to understand strategy charts, baccarat simply comes down to choosing one of three betting options – and letting the dealer handle the rest.
At the start of each baccarat round at PAV88, two hands are dealt – the Player and hands Banker. Each hand initially receives two cards. The hand value is calculated using the last digit of the total – for example, a hand with cards valued at 7 and 8 totals 15, but the hand value is 5 (not 15). The hand closest to 9 wins.
Whether the Player or Banker hand needs to draw a third card is governed by a fixed set of rules that never change – players don't need to make that call themselves. This is what makes baccarat so straightforward. All you need to do is place your bet before the round begins, then wait for the outcome.
Card Values in PAV88 Baccarat
Cards Worth Their Face Value
Ace = 1 point. Cards 2–9 = face value.
Zero-Value Cards
10, J, Q, and K are all worth 0 points.
Calculation example: The Player hand draws an 8 and 7 = total 15 = hand value 5. The Banker hand draws a K and 9 = total 9 = hand value 9. Banker wins this round.

Side bet – available at selected PAV88 tables |
Generally speaking, for the smartest baccarat strategy at PAV88, focus on the Banker bet as it carries the lowest house edge at just 1.06%. Even with the 5% commission deducted from Banker bet winnings, it remains the mathematically superior choice. The Tie bet with its 8:1 payout may look tempting, but a house edge of 14.36% is extremely high – smart baccarat play means avoiding the Tie bet except occasionally for entertainment.
PAV88 Speed Baccarat – For Players Who Love a Fast Pace
For Malaysian players who prefer a faster-paced game, Speed Baccarat at PAV88 is a great fit. In Speed Baccarat, the betting window is significantly shorter – just 12 seconds compared to 30 to 45 seconds in standard baccarat. Cards are also revealed as soon as all bets are closed, rather than waiting for the dealer to turn them over one by one.
As a result, Speed Baccarat can complete more than twice the number of rounds in the same amount of time compared to a standard table. This means that with a solid strategy, you can rack up more experience and winning opportunities in a shorter session. That said, your bankroll can also deplete faster if luck isn't on your side – so disciplined bankroll management remains just as important at PAV88.
Dragon Tiger at PAV88 – A Simpler, Faster Take on Baccarat
Dragon Tiger is often considered the "cousin" of baccarat. The concept is even more straightforward – each round, one card is dealt to Dragon and one to Tiger. Whichever hand holds the higher-value card wins. That's all there is to it.
Dragon Tiger is especially popular among Asian players, and at PAV88, the game has been very well received, especially among players looking for something simpler and faster than standard baccarat. The betting options in Dragon Tiger mirror those of baccarat – Dragon, Tiger, or Tie – with similar payouts and house edge. PAV88's Dragon Tiger tables run 24 hours a day with live dealers and a welcoming live environment.
Reading the "Road" in Baccarat – A Guide for PAV88 Players
One feature of baccarat that particularly appeals to Asian players is the use of "roads" – scoreboards that display the results of previous rounds. At PAV88, every live baccarat table shows several types of roads, including the Bead Road, Big Road, Big Eye Boy Road, and Cockroach Road. Many Malaysian players believe that reading the roads can help predict upcoming result patterns.
From a mathematical standpoint, it's important to understand that each baccarat round is independent – the outcome of a previous round has no bearing on the next. That said, reading the road is part of the culture and enjoyment of baccarat among Asian players, and PAV88 provides a complete, easy-to-read road display on all our live baccarat tables. Whether you follow patterns or not, the road still offers interesting statistical data to reference during play.
